Empowering Education and Sustainability: Think Hire and ISG Partner on Ysgol Y Deri Construction

Think Hire is supporting ISG and the Vale of Glamorgan Council in expanding Ysgol Y Deri, a specialist school for young people with additional learning needs. This project is part of the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme and aims to meet the growing demand for special education.

Located near Cosmeston Country Park, the new facility will cater to 150 additional pupils, providing a much-needed space for exceptional education. Featured in the BBC series 'Special School,' Ysgol Y Deri has a reputation for excellence, and this new site will continue that legacy.

To support this initiative, we’ve supplied our renewable off-grid power solutions such as solar hybrid generator Solartainer Versatile and Hybrid Battery Generator System SiteGrid X45. These sustainable renewable energy systems, combined with our advanced Think Energy Panorama system for monitoring usage and savings, ensure the construction process is as green as possible.

ISG is also working with the school to teach pupils and staff about sustainability. By involving them in the design and delivery of the new facility, they're fostering a culture of environmental responsibility from the ground up.

The new school building is designed to meet BREEAM Excellent standards, aiming for Net Zero Carbon in Operation, low embodied carbon, and a Net Positive increase in biodiversity. It features natural light and ventilation, green roofs, and solar panels. Bird and bat boxes, insect habitats, and newly planted trees and wildflowers will enhance local wildlife and promote sustainability.

Our renewable energy solutions will power the site, supporting ISG's commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainability. Ysgol Llyn Derw is a shining example of how we can combine education and environmental care, aligning with the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Project Zero initiative to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

We're proud to be part of this meaningful project, benefiting both students and our planet.
